Kanye Strikes Again

Lately I've gotten a bit pop culture-ish on the blog, but there's just so much going on in pop culture that relates to social media...I can't resist!

So anyway, as I've said a 1000 times before: Watch What You Do!

This incident is a lil' different however. I'm sure by now you've all heard about Kanye's behavior at the VMAs?! Now I'm usually ranting about what people post about themselves on social media sites, but this time I'm simply pointing out how you can still end up on blast w/o doing anything yourself.

I was probably the only person in America who didn't see Kanye's outburst. But within minutes it was all on YouTube & Twitter! So once I heard about it, I checked it out.

There has never been a time in history before now that the public could stay so informed of what's going on in the world down to the minute. It's a gift & a curse however.

Kanye has admitted he was wrong & has apologized, but this thing is far from over. It happened on TV Sunday, but it's been continuing on social media sites since then.

Moral of the story: Your life is not your own as long as Big Brother's watching...& he can post aomething about you lol!

Is It Really Over???

Yesterday on the news it was reported that the recession could officially be over by the end of this month. If that's the case, then that means we're nearing the end of this fiasco. Which means things should be noticeably different. BUT THEY'RE NOT!

Gas prices are steady rising, I'm still paying a fortune at the grocery store for cereal & bread, and hello: WHERE ARE THE JOBS?!

I guess there have been slight changes in the market. But as usually, what goes on on Wall Street impacts Main Street a bit differently.

I'm sure most industries are seeing declines in employment, but being that Communications is my life, obviously those declines are what's sticking out to me most. Across the board (radio, print, TV) jobs are scarce. Now's the time to think outside the box!

Consider industries not so obvious for needing Communications positions. The truth is, every organization uses internal & external Communications. There just may be a place for you there!

Also, learn all you can about technology - particularly social media. Many organizations are jumping on the social media bandwagon. You may be discovered through writing a blog or dialoguing with a company through Facebook, Twitter or even YouTube.

In these tough times, you gotta get creative & stay on top of the latest Communications trends.

Wake Up People!!!

So we can all agree that social media are great! Yaaaay! But I'm tired of people blaming these media for ruining their lives! Come on people, take responsibility for your actions.

It's great to be able to update friends & family on your life, but realize the WHOLE world can access this info too. If you talk about your girlfriend & your dip on the side on Facebook, anticipate being single 'cause it's only a matter of time before the right person finds out.

And when that happens, don't look everybody upside their head for "being in your business like they know you." They pretty much do...you broadcast your life on social media sites!

Tweet On Fabo!

So this is a lil' different from what I usually talk about, but I promise it's relevant. Over the weekend singer/fake-rapper T-Pain performed in Vegas and totally dissed rapper Jay-Z.

For those who don't know, here's the background: T-Pain is famous for using a special effect called Auto Tune on ALL of his records. He made this effect popular again after Roger Troutman's death in the 90s. So for the past few years, everyone's been flooding the airwaves & annoying the hell outta me with this effect.

Well after years of abuse, Jay-Z released a song called Death of Auto Tune. He specifically states that he's not talking to T-Pain on this record. He's basically saying the effect is being hugely overused and that no more artists should jump on this bandwagon.

Now back to the story: After T-Pain has remained silent for months about Jay-Z's song, he finally blows up at a show in Vegas. He rants and raves and attacks Jay-Z personally; not just about the song.

Now here's the relevant part: Another rap artist, Fabolous, was at the show & he tweeted about the incident while there! Fans took to Twitter instantly & dogged T-Pain for his bogus remarks.

This is another example of how social media is taking over in today's society! From the average Joe, to the rich and famous, everyone's using social media. As I said last time, be carful of what you do. You never know who's gonna hear about it...or how quickly!
